Raoul Wallenberg was a Swedish diplomat whose efforts helped to prevent the deportation and murder of thousands of Hungarian Jews. With authorization from the Swedish government, Wallenberg issued "protective passports" (German: Schutz-Pass ) that identified the bearers as Swedish subjects awaiting repatriation.
